Finished with 23 things

So thats me done with 23 things.. its been a quick run through the whole thing, but I've certainly gotten to have a better look around some online tools that had only heard of before and didn't have the time to 'play' with, so I suppose I have met the objective that I set for myself at the start.

Here's hoping I won't be too knee-deep in nappies over the next 6 months to keep this up and use all of the stuff that I have learnt.

Thanks also to Eleanor for her mentorship - really appreciate it - and to work for allowing me to do this during my working day.

Week 9 - YouTube and Podcasts

I love YouTube.. its a great way of sharing videos with other people. We have done so at christmas in the past, and its very easy to do. It's also great for getting a glimpse of others videos. I'm a big fan of the Irish singer Lisa Hannigan, and I love this live version of her song: I don't know... I couldn't find it anywhere to listen to over here, or buy her album, so YouTube helps me get my "Lisa-fix"!

I'm also used to Podcasts from the Hawke library, where we stream several videos of Bob Hawke - some from Youtube and also a very old recording from the ABC, 1966. Of course our main problem here is that we need to get copyright permissions from the owner to stream the videos... not always easy, but thankfully Catherine always comes to our rescue!

Week 8 - Online productivity tools

It seems to me that the idea behind these is good, especially if you don't want to fork out for the Microsoft software or have different versions installed on your work and home pc's etc.. but even though they are similiar in their set-up, I doubt they will ever take over from Microsoft.. People are just too stubborn to change. Personally, while I think it would probably be better to use something like Zoho writer, I can't see myself leaving Microsoft.. sorry!

Week 7 - Wikis

I guess the idea of Wikis is good, but the hard part is to make sure that you go into the Wiki on a regular basis to check for new information. I suppose thats where Bloglines is more advanced than the Wiki as Bloglines gives you the information, whereas with the Wiki you need to regularly go in to check info.. or set up an RSS feed if its possible... maybe this just highlights my laziness, and I just need to get into a regular routine of checking Wikis - like the UniSA one WikiIRT.

Something else to add to the to-do list I think!

Week 6 - Del.icio.us and Web 2.0

I'm not a big fan of using tags myself.. I prefer to bookmark stuff, but I can see how people would find this appealing... its an interesting application. And also very handy if you want to access stuff you use regularly but are a user of multiple compluters.
I've seen it on Flickr and some other sites before, but never really had the time to check it out properly.

Web 2.0.. the buzz word in libraries today. We all know that we are providing access to more and more electronic books, but what good are these if people don't know that they are there and how to get to them?! Someone commented on the PLCMC website that they hoped that Library systems would help people take the leap off the cliff into cyberspace... well I don't think its something that library systems can do, however, we can make that leap a bit more easier by providing users with an easy to use, interactive system and also by providing someone for them to talk to if they have problems.

Week 5 - Play

I'm loving the FD Toys image generator (http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/)... heres one I made earlier:
I also like the idea of LibraryThing and Rollyo... however I wonder how many people would actually go to the trouble of using Rollyo.. esp as Google is popular these days?!

Week 4 - Bloglines

I've signed up for Bloglines.. it looks really interesting and a great way to receive news rather than having to thrawl through lots of different sites.. however I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew initially as I've signed up for a quite a few, and now have a lot of reading to do!

It'll certainly keep me busy for a while!!!

So this is one of my favourite pics from my Flickr site. It was taken in Adelaide Zoo last November.

Once the photos are loaded up in Flickr and you've set up the link between Flick and you're blog, the rest is pretty simple... happy days!

Most of my pictures on Flickr are private - I'm a little greedy with my pictures, but if you want to add me as a friend to see the rest, please do so. If you search for Ann Morgan4, you should find me!!!
